Casual Games
Free casual games: Gold Miner, Fruit Slasher, Fruit Snake, one-touch timing games, table football, dress-up and more.
Why these games
Casual games are the easiest to duplicate, so this is where we removed the most re-skins: a second stick-bridge game, a second one-tap flyer, two extra balloon-tapping games and a sweets-themed copy of Gold Miner. What remains is one strong example of each idea — from the 20-level Gold Miner and Girl Dress Up with its roughly 200 items to the two-player Super Goal.

Pick by how much time you have
Two minutes: Touch Ball, Flappy Ball, Stick Monkey or Balloon Paradise. Ten minutes: Fruit Slasher, Fruit Snake, Traffic Crossing or Fishing Frenzy. Longer: Gold Miner's 20 levels, a few matches of Super Goal or a creative session in Girl Dress Up.
Tips that work across casual games
In timing games, find a rhythm instead of reacting late. In Gold Miner and Fishing Frenzy, weigh value against time. And in every game, a calm, steady approach beats frantic clicking.
Game-by-game overview
Gold Miner
Gold Miner is a classic hook-and-grab game. A claw swings at the top of the screen above a mine full of gold nuggets, jewels, rocks, bones, barrels and even moles. Tap to drop the claw, and whatever it catches is reeled back up and added to your total.
Best thing about it: 20 levels with rising targets. Watch out for: Later targets demand repetition to learn each mine.
Girl Dress Up
Girl Dress Up is a creative styling game. The game's own description invites you to help the girl find her style and charm: there are about two hundred items to choose from in twelve categories, including haircuts and hair colour, eye colour, glasses and glasses colour, dresses, shirts, jeans, shoes and shoe colour, body colour, lip colour and nail colour.
Best thing about it: Around 200 items in twelve categories. Watch out for: No goals — players who want a challenge should look elsewhere.
Stick Monkey
Stick Monkey is a one-touch timing game. A monkey stands on a platform with a gap in front of it and another platform beyond. As the game itself says: hold your finger on the screen to stretch out the stick. Release, the stick falls across the gap, and the monkey walks along it.
Best thing about it: Portrait layout made for one-handed phone play. Watch out for: A single mechanic — sessions are best kept short.
Fruit Slasher
Fruit Slasher is a fruit-slicing game. Apples, bananas, cherries, lemons, oranges, pears, plums and strawberries are tossed up into the air, and you swipe across them to slice them in half. Each fruit sliced adds to your score.
Best thing about it: Swiping feels natural on touch screens. Watch out for: Less precise with a mouse than with a finger.
Traffic Crossing
Traffic Crossing is a road-crossing game. The game's instructions explain the goal: help the player reach his car intact, avoiding the mad traffic — and the car is 100 steps away. Between you and it lie busy roads, intersections, crosswalks, railway lines with passing trains and rivers with boats.
Best thing about it: Clear goal: 100 steps to the car. Watch out for: Railway crossings leave little margin for error.
Super Goal
Super Goal is a table-football game. Each side has a player piece on a field, and you drag yours to strike the ball into the opponent's goal. The ball bounces off the walls with realistic physics.
Best thing about it: Two-player mode on one device. Watch out for: Solo play depends on the computer's difficulty setting.
Fruit Snake
Fruit Snake is, in the game's own words, a classic game of snake in a colour version, in which you need to collect fruits — and each fruit eaten adds time. You steer a snake around the board; every fruit makes it longer and buys you more seconds.
Best thing about it: Timer twist adds urgency to a classic. Watch out for: Swiping is less precise than arrow keys for tight turns.
Flappy Ball
Flappy Ball is a one-tap flying game. A ball moves forward through a scrolling world, and gravity constantly pulls it down. Each tap gives it a small upward boost. Pipes stick up from the ground and down from the sky, and you must guide the ball through the gaps between them.
Best thing about it: One-tap controls anyone can learn. Watch out for: Difficulty can frustrate beginners.
Fishing Frenzy
Fishing Frenzy is an action-packed fishing game. In the game's own words, you fight for your prey: catch fish, blow up rabid sharks and seahorses, collect starfish and seashells, and catch bubbles containing bombs, worms, treasure, extra time and gifts.
Best thing about it: Several resources to manage. Watch out for: Can feel busy for players expecting a calm fishing game.
Touch Ball
Touch Ball is a minimalist tapping game. A ball sits on the screen and a timer counts down. Every time you touch the ball, you score a point. The goal is to score as many touches as possible before the time runs out.
Best thing about it: Rules take seconds to learn. Watch out for: Very little depth.
Balloon Paradise
Balloon Paradise is a relaxing tapping game. Colourful balloons float upward through a sunny scene, and you tap them to pop them. Several kinds of balloon appear, each with its own colour and points.
Best thing about it: Calm and undemanding. Watch out for: Too simple to hold older players for long.
